What projects qualify for funding?

SWEEP funding can be used to add valuable water-saving tools and technology products to your operation including:

  • Flow meters
  • Soil moisture monitoring
  • Conversions from flood to micro irrigation
  • Silos and solution machines
  • Sulfur burners
  • Acid machines
  • Pump and valve control
  • Variable frequency drives
  • Reservoir lining
  • Weather stations for ET based scheduling
  • And more irrigation/greenhouse gas emission reduction products

We don’t know the specifics about the application, but it has been announced that funding will be available.

Work begins on preparing applications

We highly encourage that you start collecting your project information as soon as possible. It can take time to get project quotes, pump tests, utility bills and other required data.

Applications are now being accepted

The opening date has not been announced. Best guess is mid-October 2021.

Funding is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis

This means that your odds of getting funding decrease the longer you wait to submit your application.​

IM will work with your team to complete all SWEEP funded projects that are purchased through IM. Previous rounds of funding have required that projects be completed within 18 months.​

No, we provide you with the recommended irrigation schedule so that you can make the final decision and give instructions to your irrigators.

No. This round of funding is time-sensitive. CDFA is granting funding on a first-come, first-served basis.

Growers can be funded up to $200,000.

Yes. Irrigation Matters grant writing fee is $2,000 for each application that is submitted. This fee will be billed upon submittal of each application.

No. We encourage you to submit projects that are best for your operation, not exclusively projects that IM offers.

If your project(s) is funded, grant monies are on a reimbursement basis and not provided upfront. You are to pay vendors as project components are completed, and then submit invoices to the CDFA to be reimbursed. Please note that there is usually a 45-60 day window for reimbursements to be processed and disbursed. Invoices need to be paid based on the payment terms set by each vendor.

Yes. You will have to verify all components upon completion of the project, and there is the potential to be audited throughout the life of the project.
